Tips for Searching MaineToday.com
Searching MaineToday's Classifieds
On the Search screen, you can select or fill-in the criteria that most interests you. Be aware that the more criteria you specify, the more limited your search will be quite possibly to the point of not matching ANY ads in the system. It's best to start with a fairly broad search (e.g., select "For Rent" then choose a town "Cape Elizabeth") first, then narrow your search one additional criteria at a time.
Some users have had trouble coming up with matches and have chosen no preferences. This can happen if you did not select "For Sale" or "For Rent" before starting your search. The "For Sale" or "For Rent" button must be selected before you click on the "Show Results" button.
To specify your search you can also enter a keyword or keywords to narrow the results. You have the option of specify whether to show ads that contain ALL the words or ads that show ANY of the words.
If you use your "back" button to return to the search page from a results page, you need to re-select your original criteria and then choose your additional preferences. If you don't re-select the original criteria, you may get a "no matches found" when in fact there are matches in the system. It is a glitch in our system that will be corrected in the next couple of weeks.
Q: I want to print out selected ads from my search but I can only print one page at a time. Is there a faster way?
A: There is currently a "printer-friendly" feature, but it is (for now) tied to the "Saved Ads" feature: You click the check boxes of the ads you want to "save", click the "save marked ads" button, then when you view the saved ads they're in a printer-friendly layout.
